My work is best described as Freedom of speech art (Fos art). I gave my new art category this name because expression of opinion is an urgent topic in our current society; consider the recent developments in Russia, China, Turkey and Syria. Expression of opinion is under pressure in western countries as well, such as the United States and Europe. We are abandoning privacy for security, big brother is more current than ever because of new technological developments and the press is considered a pain in the neck instead of an inspector of power.
I view our society, politics, sex, religion, economics and capitalism critically in this artistic trend. I deal with topics such as power, status, race, human rights and war, and I name abuses. I lay existing paradigms on the table and offer new paradigms, some of which are encouraging, while others are confrontational and controversial, but always sincerely sympathetic towards humanity and the world.
In Fos art, I also deal with what can and is allowed to be said. What are our rights and obligations? How free are we really? And what will society look like in the future?
